Disaster Preparedness with Christine Ianna of State Library

Christine Ianna has worked in Materials Conservation profession in Queensland for more than thirty years. She has held positions at the Queensland Museum, Queensland State Archives and State Library of Queensland. Christine is a Professional Member of the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material (AICCM), the peak body for Conservators in Australia.

A few our members have had water damage and mould issues the last couple years. So, this is an excellent opportunity for us all to renew our School Archives Disaster Plan Management. Learning what we can do, steps that can be taken to prevent and who to contact for assistance with conservation.

We will have a practical demonstration of caring for water damaged items, a mocked up drying session, showing the process of caring for wet books/papers/photographs/other media, set up on a separate table that attendees could do a bit of a hands on during lunch.

Attendees are encouraged to share their experiences of any archival disasters and/or describe the process of risk assessment and preparing a disaster plan for their collection. Please bring with you any plans you may have already written or begun to write.

Bianca Wagner will showcase her School Museum and if time permits, the current displays for ANZAC Day 2021 in their new Administration building where she has three showcases.
